GIFTS - Galilean
International Film and Television Services of India
Incorporated in India, dedicated to outreach of the Gospel
via film, videos and other media. With national and regional steering committees and directors,
as well as 60+ key volunteer administrators pastors, supervisors, translators and
trainers, GIFTS is a most effective arm of the Church in India.
STRATEGY
In 1986, GIFTS of India and M/E International, Inc (USA)
affiliated to establish the Cassette Discipleship Program for India, a process to mobilize
villagers to minister as Village Evangelists.
CDP DEVELOPMENT
It took the better part of four(4) years to complete the
procedural, programmatic and nationalization of the program -- it had to be their
program!!!
In 1990 the prototype-field-effort was begun -- many had
great misgivings about the program, its acceptance and effectivity.
The second year, four VEs were placed and the excitement was
growing in GIFTS as the CDP was increasingly demonstrating a most effective process to
reach villagers with the Gospel.
GROWTH AND CHALLENGE
The next several years saw growth to over 175 VEs in the
field and another 50 trained and ready for ministry. But, with their remarkable growth in
India, we here in the USA were not successful to achieve a stable base of adopters to
support the VEs at that level -- forcing GIFTS to take a 'fall back' position at 80 VEs,
which has just recently been increased to 90 (early 1998). Note that there are still over
140 VEs trained and ready for service as the enabling funds are received.
