M/E INTERNATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS

WHAT WE BELIEVE

HISTORY

A 59-year-old ministry (started in 1948 by Mr. Howard Pettman in Syracuse, NY), now headquartered in Brea, California, USA,   Missionary Electronics (M/E) was a leader for 40-years in the development of special low-power public-address, reel-to-reel tape and cassette equipment for use in developing countries by missionaries and nationals.

Many of these "Gibson Girl"  Emergency Transmitter's were converted between 1952 and 1955 to provide an Amplifier for external Speakers,  with Microphone  and Phonograph accessories.

The Portable Teacher was used between 1960 and 1973.  It was a Reel to Reel Tape Player, Phonograph, Public address system with external speaker and a Reel to Reel Tape Recorder when accessory unit provided.

The Audio Teacher was developed between 1973 and 1985.  It was a Cassette player powered by Hand-crank  OR  a.c.  OR d.c.  external power.

This view of the Audio Teacher has a  clear Plexiglas top showing the inside working mechanism.

With the availability of good commercial equipment, our emphasis has shifted to programmatic areas to assist the nationals to increase their outreach. The CDP activities were a direct result of our Father-God's leading while we were flying over India in 1986 asking, "Father, how can we reach these villagers?"

Since 1986, our focus has been on the Cassette Discipleship Program (CDP) for village outreach, especially India; where Village Evangelists(VEs) are actually villagers-reaching-villagers. It has been our privilege and joy to help enable them to "do it themselves" via GIFTS of India.

CURRENTLY

CDP structured cassette programs are now available in twelve(12) of the major languages of India, being used in eight(8) states -- with plans and trained VEs available to start in the remaining states. M/E is helping GIFTS to implement the CDP in India
-- equipping a Village Evangelist (VE) for $150.00 (a once only cost as the VE volunteers his time in true ministry).    This provides Cassette Player, Cassettes, and bicycle as required.  CDP in India has an ultimate need for a total of 80,000 VEs to reach all of India's villagers on a regular basis; each VE has the responsibility for ten villages, about 10,000 villagers.

CDP is a grass roots program -- very cost effective -- about 1/80th the cost if 'westerners' were to even to try to do it!     As a grass roots process, villagers reach out to villagers -- with the trained non-literate villager being Village Evangelists (VEs) who use structured dialog cassette messages for Outreach as well as further training for 'himself'.

It is our desire to have all the countries of Africa started in CDP by the end of April 2004, with the intent to reach out to all the villagers in all the countries on before 2010 AD. Started is: at least having leadership and steering committee assigned. Ideally, we will have a single point contact in your 'camp' for general communication.

Ideally we recommend deploying VEs in groups of 20 in an Outpost, each VE responsible for 10 or more villages (about 10,000 villagers).  All CDP leaders, supervisors, and VEs are volunteers (or locally supported as pastors, etc.).
