Cassette Discipleship Programs

        M/E Intl and GIFTS (Galilean International Film and Television Services of India) have developed and operated the Cassette Discipleship Program in India for the last 15 years.   It has been a very effective tool which continues to reach thousands of villagers in outreached areas.  See our WEBSITE:  me-intl.org,   for very detailed information, pictures and specific content of the messages translated into  many of the languages in India. 

       The following  e-mail  which we received from Dr. C. D. Jebasingh, will further 

familiarize you with the heart of GIFTS and our working relationship:

Jim:

            GIFTS is a 100% indigenous ministry started by seven Indians pooling their resources to register a trust to promote a cost-intensive ministry such as Visual Media Evangelism. You are aware that the equipment needed such as projectors and cameras are very expensive for Indian standards. Yet without any overseas support we have built seven regional resource centers in the last 20 years with training facilities that carry equipment, videos and films to be used by the Church in India.

            The only overseas support have come in the form of supply of films and videos as free gifts. Ray did make some funding in the first five years, for training programes. Dan did some funding through you for the production of The Pearl in 1982-83. In recent years, we have a partnership with Dr.Ken Curtis to translate the William Carey Film into Indian languages on a fifty/fifty basis. We have taken on this project as a pioneering effort since there is a need for Christian films in Indian languages. We praise God that He is honoring this commitment.

            I write this to stress that I am sold out to run an indigenous organization. We make every special effort month after month to raise funds from churches, individuals and organizations. And that's how we could sustain CDP too, for so long. For the last few years (i.e., since the time, adequate quantum stopped coming) all the administrative overheads for CDP have been met by GIFTS corporate, and our supervisors understood our predicament are still standing with us to rough it out.

            Now that the "Holistic" component addition to CDP has come in, let us work out a good project proposal and present it to interested foundations, individuals and churches overseas. I am positive if you and your board scouts out for fresh contacts, sources of fresh support can be found.

Abraham and Susheel can add the medical and social ingredients to the CDP concept that has worked really well for God to bring the harvest. I am also keen that years of our labor we have put here for the Lord's cause through CDP gets a new dimension to take the Gospel to the Dalits, who are a new challenge.

             Praise the Lord for such dedicated leadership -- those that we can align with and be most confident with.  They are surely worthy of all the support we can offer -- Prayer, Plans and financial enabling.

 The Dalits  --  lowest caste in India

        An amazing thing has been happening in India -- indeed, a major situation -- where the Dalits of India have become unified against the oppression of the Hindu Religion and are in the midst of changing -- forcing all in India to allow them to change to the religion of their choice.

        The initial group of some 50,000 have proclaimed themselves now to be Buddhists rather than Hindu.  Actually there was a larger group that had planned to make their statement of change in a large park, but the police disallowed their use of that park, necessitating use of the smaller arena.

        Now this may not look like too significant a situation, but, when one realizes that this just is not done, even on a small to individual basis.  So, if this goes through as we can expect it will, this portends to both increased changes, as well as attendant persecution and conflict.

        But, we can pray that our Lord will use this new ‘openness’ as a wedge for their understanding and accepting His call on their lives.

         YES -- PRAY FOR HIS CONVICTION OF SIN, RIGHTEOUSNESS AND JUDGMENT TO COME -- TOUCHING

Holistic Outreach

       It has always been our intent to be as Holistic (Whole ‘Man’) oriented as possible, attempting to meet their physical, social and spiritual needs.  However, due to the press of circumstances and lack of funding,  we have necessarily been limited to present the Gospel in power as the Holy Spirit directs.

           This has not been all that bad -- there have been many saved and at the same time, many have been materially aided -- and perhaps that is  one of the strengths of this program, a total dependence on Him!!  -- yet, we understand the need for a deeper relationship wherever possible -- seeking to reach them via all means, many by helps of various types, some by medical means, some just by providing some food or other menial need which is perhaps very imprint to them.  A plan is in formation to help accomplish this, the expectation is that this will significantly help with the entry of the Gospel to their heart of hearts.

   Communications/media center

      The establishment and use of Communication/Media centers as apart of our total plan has been high on our future potentials to allow the work of CDP to progress more rapidly. 

           With such unifying and educating capabilities available, we could expect faster growth of all those coming to the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior. -- providing them with knowledge and skills not possible before -- all a to make them grow faster in the Lord and allow them to be all the sooner key members of our Outreach Team.

          With GIFT’s  present national  steering committees, located in many key areas of India, the growth of this Communication/Media Center can be rapid -- all the while allowing the CDP Village Evangelists to be further nurtured and capable. 

           It goes without saying I suppose, but this will all take funding -- moneys which we do not presently have -- yet,  we know too, that in His time, we will see these come to pass as He desires to see them implemented. Truly a new level of undertaking, but multipliers for the kingdom work already underway in CDP.

Notice  of Pending Move

We are in the process of moving.  Overhead has increasingly made operation difficult -- we can save enough for 12 added Village Evangelists.  So despite added moving and other inconveniences, we feel it is worthwhile.  Our mailing address and telephone is now as shown in the "Return Address".  We anticipate having the move completed by the end of March 2002.
