Chapter
7: The Returned
It was almost 7:30 am when
the `group' had converged on the steps of the Knesset, anxious to discuss
the recent activities and to see Jacob in action.
The Knesset was buzzing with activity, and as the `group' was in the
hall going towards their seats -- it was now 7:45 a.m.-- who should come
along but their friend Jacob.
Jacob greeted them each by name, indicating that he wasn't sure what
the schedule for their deliberations might be in view of the earthquake and
all. "Hey `group', let's meet for lunch, ok? I'll make reservations for
12:00 Noon at the Jerusalem Hotel Restaurant". Receiving affirmative
nods, he bid them, " Shalom, Shalom" as he hurriedly headed for
his desk.
At 8 :00 a.m. sharp the Knesset was called to order -- indicating
that they had many and varied things to cover -- dispensing with most of the
usual ceremonial opening activities.
By 8:07 they were getting down to business -- of course, realizing
that these public sessions are generally kept low key -- where the major
work and classified activities are carried on in committees behind closed
doors.
The first item of business was a shocker to Harold. It placed a
resolution on the floor for voice vote which was to accept the southern
coalition of Lebanese Christians' request for Israel to take permanent and
sovereign control of the area of Lebanon up to the latitude of Damascus.
The Lebanese
group has already received the United Nations recognition of these
boundary adjustments for this change. The vote was taken and passed by voice
count : 75 to 15, with 7 abstentions, and
23 members not present.
This had `sailed' right through with only minor opposition.
Israel has been involved with Lebanon for years, essentially
providing all medical, postal, communications
and food supplies to southern Lebanon. Israel had also provided more than
just moral support to the southern groups in their civil war efforts.
Of course, this will help Israel tremendously by improving her buffer
zone as well as her overall area.
Harold noted to the `group' that,
"this now cleared the way for the Prince to come on the scene
and set up the Daily Sacrifice -- of course, contingent upon the Land being
divided." Harold also noted that, "things were indeed happening --
nothing static here. Whew!!"
Harold had just let the `Whew' escape his lips, when there was quite
a disturbance at the rear of the hall. Rachel noted that it was only 8:28
AM. Actually, the Prime
Minister was just preparing to say something when an
"Ladies and gentlemen", the Prime Minister said, --
"we have an unexpected ------"
Before he could complete the sentence, a person entered quickly from
the rear and walked down the center aisle toward the podium. He was in full
view of all members of the Knesset. There was a general buzz -- and this
person carrying a shepherds staff commanded great authority.
Obviously so, for nobody even thought of challenging his right to be
there. He walked with sureness of stride -- he made his way to the podium of
Israel's seat of government. It
was truly amazing that no one challenged his right to `take charge'.
A hush fell as he planted his staff loudly on the floor, several
times, like a resounding `gavel' to call a meeting to order, -- then
announced: "I am the Prophet Samuel, God has sent me to again
anoint your king". He
paused, turned to his right. He beckoned to a stalwart fellow standing in
the side aisle. This person moved forward -- again, amazingly so, nobody
challenging any of these proceedings. Upon reaching the podium area this
stalwart fellow (impressive and handsome) was asked to kneel. The `Prophet'
taking a small horn of oil from his girdle, anoints the kneeling one
"King of all Israel". He
then, with a flair, introduces their new king. "This is -- King David,
-- the Returned!!" It was incredible -- a `deafening' silence had settled over this scene -- then unbelief, consternation, and wonder were obvious emotions clearly seen on practically every face visible. This lasted perhaps 8 or 10 seconds, then, as if under direction of a choir master, a great and welling shout of joy and fulfillment came from almost everyone present as this fantastic scene impacted them. King David had returned!! As
if this were not enough, the following scenes continued to raise the level
of the already highly expectant crowd --
King David stood, raised his hand for silence. You could have heard a
pin drop!
"Greetings to each of you", said `King David'--
"especially all those of the household of faith. The grace
of God is so great -- He is wonderful -- He is truly all powerful --
His plan is perfect. He has
allowed me to return after almost 3,000 years to help all of Israel (the
whole house) to regain and complete it's glory under His direction -- to
bring great Glory to His mighty name. This will usher in a short period
wherein each member of the house of Israel will have an opportunity to be of
faith or not."
"We will have the privilege of seeing the sacrifices completed
-- to see God's Messiah back on earth. It will be a difficult time for all
-- a time of special testing. You will have adequate opportunity to decide your own and
individual fate -- I will ever encourage you to stand firm for our God and
for His Anointed. I am not The
Messiah, I tell you this so that
"I am here to prepare the way for Him.
Indeed, Israel as the apple of God's eye will be prepared as the
Bride of Messiah -- having been chosen per the covenants God has held
with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel). But, Israel, because of
unbelief, will share her Messiah."
"Yes, our Messiah turned to the gentiles, as prophesied, and has
made His salvation available to `whosoever would come' over this last 2,000
year period. Yes, The Messiah is that same Jesus the Christ, He that was
crucified that we might all have eternal life.
Your eternal fate now depends solely on your acceptance or not of His
sacrifice."
"The sacrifices that we raised to God are
types of His great sacrifice -- we will celebrate these sacrifices of
animals for a very short time now, bringing to completion our (Israel's) Old
Covenant relationships with our God. Then, as our faith is placed in The
Messiah fully, seeing Him that
"we pierced", the redemption
of each person that accepts and receives Him as their savior will be
completed, fully reconciled to our God.
Sadly, there are those that will not believe -- these will be
separated from God and The Messiah forever and ever and ever!"
"Yes", King David continued, "Our God is Great, and
much to be praised. May the words of our mouths and the meditations of our
hearts ever be acceptable to Him. Bless the Lord, Oh my soul -- and all that
is with in me bless His Holy Name -- even that name that is above every
name, JESUS!!!"
With that shouted pronouncement, King David turned to his left and
motioned to several now standing in the aisle,
to join him at the podium.
King David then turned back to the assembly saying, "-- I want
to initiate some critical activities and appoint leadership to oversee them.
Each of these men you will know from your scriptures, each is blessed to be
back in service to their God."
"First", he continued, "I want you to meet Israel's
great leader from exile --
Moses. Yes, Moses will head up all activities related to the Temple -- location and operation of
it to God's glory". With
that, a striking individual
stepped forward, lifting both hands high in praise to his God and for his
opportunity to have a part in these End Time activities.
The crowd clapped their hands and shouted their praises, all
believing they were in a dream --
"I hate to interrupt such praise to our God", King David
interjected, "but we must hasten on -- there is much yet to be done
this day."
Next, King David said, "Here is Joseph (the son of Israel) -- he
is to
A small man stepped forward and with bowed head and raised hands gave
praise to God for all His gracious acts towards mankind. His manner caused
the crowd to be very quiet and pensive.
"The next two men", King David continued, "are the
prophets Ezekiel and Daniel. God gave them His plan for the End Time
including the Land to be occupied (which incidentally your Knesset voted to
accept just this morning), how it is to be divided, who is to be in which
areas, and how the Temple is to be placed, and so forth."
The Prophet Ezekiel and the Prophet Daniel similarly gave praise to
God for their opportunity to serve Him -- and for His great and marvelous
plan -- His kindnesses to Israel and to all the world.
The mention of the Temple incited a special excitement, if you can
imagine adding excitement on top of excitement!!
"As a concluding action", King David raises his hand for
silence, "-- I want to be very clear, we are in a very special period
of time for Israel. I will be
your King only for a short time -- The Messiah, when He returns, will be
your KING, and I your Prince FOREVER."
This brought a great and resounding corporate praise from the ips of
essentially everyone present.
King David continued, "-- Israel in expecting her Messiah, is very open to false leaders. She
will be prone to follow one of such stature. He will be the anti- messiah or
anti-christ. Do not follow him. He
will be powerful and show many signs and wonders.
Be aware, our Messiah will return to the earth only after this period
of testing is complete, actually, about 3-1/2 years after great signs in the
heavens -- the sun, and moon, and stars will be involved and then we will
see Him return to mount Zion in power and great glory.
"Many that have already accepted Him as their personal Savior
prior to the sun, moon, and stars signs will be gathered to meet Jesus the
Christ in the air. They will join Him for a 3-1/2 year feast time of praise
and judgement of works. Meeting with all true Christians who are then truly
part of Him in a new physical/spiritual relationship (the Body of Christ).
"After this period, Messiah, including His new Body of believers
mystically combined, will then come for His Bride, true Israel. Yes, all
that will now complete their faith in Him as their personal savior.
This is, of course, yet another Mystery of God's kingdom."
"One last warning", King David said, "the anti-messiah
will finally do away with special praise to God and will set Himself up in
the Temple of God as God -- this about 1290 days after he orders special
praise or
"In the meantime", King David said, "Israel will be
under my rule -- God will establish Israel as a major earthly kingdom.
Please join me in bidding Moses and his men God's speed as they right now
prepare to go out to the mountains of Nebo to locate the Tabernacle and it's
Temple -- yes, the old traveling tabernacle!"
With that, Moses and a small band of men make their way out the exit.
When attention came back to the podium, all the others were gone --
King David, the Prophets and Joseph -- they just were gone.
To say there was turmoil in the Knesset is putting it mildly. There
was chaos!! Everyone was in a state of shock. The Prime Minister was limply
sitting in his chair apparently a thousand miles away `somewhere' ------ he
finally `came to' and stepped rather gingerly to the podium.
"Ladies and Gentlemen -- it is now only 10:00 a.m. this has been
quite a session -- amazing -- really awesome!"
Rachel squealed in
Harold's ear, "it really is, isn't it!! Wow!!"
The Prime Minister continued, "we
are dismissed until 1:30 this afternoon -- we will meet in closed session to
consider these very significant activities and what course of action (if
any) we must take". With that he turned on his heel and left the hall.
It was quite obvious to Harold that the impact of these events were
being hashed and re-hashed. Lines for and against this new king were taking
shape. Many said -- this is
really too much! Just this last week Dr. H.A. Issem , a renowned world-Jew
had met with the Knesset, seeking their support for world-wide action
related to communications, food, water, AIDS and cleaning up the destruction
caused by earthquakes. The
Knesset was really drawn to him, he represents a very logical alternative.
He has a very authoritative yet personable way about him.
The `group' just sort of migrated to the front of the Knesset, really
almost numb with what they had just experienced.
Rachel broke the silence, "-- Boy, O'Boy, O'Boy", she said,
"talk about our being in the right place at the right time!!"
"Yes", said Harold, "we are really right there living
it, aren't we?"
Sam and Sadie could not agree more, "-- boy how this all fits
with what we have been discussing! Mr.
Monroe, -- Sadie and I
really need to
"Right Sam", said Harold, "we all want to get in on
that teaching if at all possible."
Phoebe noted, "without doubt Israel was on the move, she
is definitely well into
the End Time -- and of special note and interest right now is the recovery
of the Tabernacle with all it's trappings. Isn't It interesting", she
said, "that yesterdays earthquake had really set the stage to clear the
Temple Mount. I hear that
workers with bull dozers
already had the major area cleared -- expected to have the rest ready by day
after tomorrow -- allowing the Tabernacle with it's Temple to be properly
placed. That is so fantastic, -- yes Rachel, Awesome!!!"
Excitement was high, -- unbelief had turned to praise and
belief!! It was fantastic! Even
the special one page limited editions of the Jerusalem Post (they were
operating on emergency power) were expressing it as truly awesome!
All this happened, Harold mused, yet it is barely 10:30 A.M. -- the
group is simply stunned. It becomes more fantastic each hour, he thought.
Rachel has been dying to get their group together where they could
talk -- things have been happening so fast that there hasn't been any time
to really compare notes.
Sam and Sadie have already asked to get with Mr. Monroe, they really
want to get his insights.
"Well", said Harold looking at Phoebe for approval,
"we can be available about 7 :00 p.m.
I should think, but we will yet be with Jacob and all of you for
lunch. We'll see what the
afternoon brings -- we had plans for some typical tourist activities but the
Lord's plan seems to be quite different, and a lot more interesting and
exciting!!"
Sadie, with Sam and Rachel on each side of her, was chattering away
about Samuel, King David, Moses, Joseph, etc, etc -- until Sam had to ask
her to `cool it'. She was
almost out of control. As they stopped to get
`her' breath -- the Monroe's came along and they all stood in the
middle of the sidewalk talking up a storm.
"At this rate", Rachel said, "we'll all have
`lock-jaw' before lunch time!"
It was now 11:45 a.m. and true, near lock-jaw conditions prevailed.
Harold was particularly enjoying the comments and insights of the younger
folks -- he was also hoping that their lunch with Jacob would bring some
really significant insights from his Knesset perspectives -- the
parliamentarian point of view!
They were now close to the Jerusalem Hotel, so were fairly casual in
Just then a rather boisterous
`parade' of people came into view -- approaching them -- the word quickly
spread (actually propagated like wild fire) that this is
the band of men going out to the Mountains -- they are on their way
to recover the Tabernacle!!! This
was electric -- like lightning sparkling
off of everything, animate and inanimate.
This was central to the Jewish dream -- to see the Temple restored --
but to have the original traveling Tabernacle and Temple -- WOW!!
They say, God willing, they will return with it tomorrow evening.
They expect to have it in place by sundown on Friday for the Sabbath!
Can it be?!
Harold noted to all that the nationalistic fervor is very high and
growing. One can hardly conceive of a people of such zeal and purpose,
seemingly poised as an arrow in a drawn bow ---seeking a target.
"You know", Harold said, "you young people -- young
Jews -- are now being particularly effected. You basically have been
somewhat separated from the old Jewish traditions and scriptures, just kind
of took it with a grain of salt, but now there are proof positives
everywhere -- there is little place for denial. Yes indeed, he said, the
faith of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is `alive and well' in Israel."
As the tabernacle brigade faded in the distance, Rachel was almost
coming unglued! Here was one
`turned on' Israeli -- full of expectations, -- full of questions. Rachel
noted, "that we seemed to be generating 10 questions for every answer.
But," she said, "the answers being received were somewhere between
immense and fantastic -- yes indeed, she said, awesome!!
The group found themselves at the hotel right at
noon -- and were quickly ushered right to their waiting table for six, -- oh
yes, it does pay to have your `local' Knesset Parliamentarian make the
reservations through his office!
Jacob joined them almost immediately. "I was held up", he
said, "by the Tabernacle parade. I began to wonder if I would be able
to get here before 1:00 P.M."
"Good to see you Jacob", Harold said,
"-- we were all certainly impressed with the Knesset session
this morning. We did, however, miss hearing your report."
Jacob swallowed hard, almost choking on that one -- strange, he
hadn't even thought about his being passed over. "-- You know, he said,
"no one -- I mean no one -- had any inkling that was going to happen.
Very frankly, we don't know quite what to do with it or about it. I suppose
some direction will come out of the closed session this afternoon.
For some reason we can't bring normal pressures or authority into
play -- we all seem quite willing to let it run it's course. Strange",
he mused.
At that point the waiter was at the table for their order -- Jacob
suggested a business lunch that "is excellent", it also includes
iced tea. They all agreed, and
returned to their conversation without loosing a beat -- probably not a
syllable.
Sadie asked, "Mr. Monroe, we are obviously in the midst of a
well planned -- well, an operation of some kind?! it seems to at least
partially fit the scheme of things you have been telling us about. Where is
all this taking us?"
"Yes, Sadie, there is a plan -- an operation underway as you put
it. You know, it is so great for Phoebe and me to be here experiencing these
great things with you! I must confess that my previous studies, although
immensely helpful, are being challenged and updated moment by moment. The
infra-structure or details are `blowing me away'."
Rachel blurted out, "you know, King David was very clear that we
Jews are an important part but only a shared part with and in the Messiah.
I'm not sure just exactly what that really means, but it seemed to
fit pretty well with what you were telling us from your Christian
perspective."
"Right, Rachel", said Mr. Monroe, "Israel is the apple
of God's eye -- he promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob the land, great
leadership, and great influence on all nations -- and above all, that He
would be your God and you would be His people. To complete this process He
promised you His Messiah, His anointed one."
"Significantly", Harold continued after a short pause, --
"some of the promises were conditional -- oh, -- particularly those
related to Israel blessing all nations."
"In God's great wisdom and grace -- He implemented His word and
His pronouncements to man in both direct and somewhat oblique ways.
Oblique in that they often required careful and prayerful
consideration and study."
Rachel blurted out her comment, "Like what you said concerning
studying to show yourself approved unto God?
Right."
"Right on Rachel, that is it indeed ."
"Look", said Mr. Monroe, "at the Prophet
Ezekiel's writings -- and Daniel's too, -- they both cried out for
understanding, etc. It has
never been easy -- it probably never will be!! But, dear people, -- we are
seeing and getting an impact that had better get our attention!
You see, God wants us to seek Him -- to search
diligently -- to long-for and love Him."
Sadie broke in, "Mr. Monroe, we are fairly well oriented to
`flesh and blood' things -- well, spirits, and things like that -- tough to
swallow!!"
"That is certainly true, Sadie, but you know, -- I bet that
Jacob nodded that he understood, but added, "-- still", he
said, "it makes no logical sense."
"That is certainly true Jake, and God knows that too --
but He wants no more or less than for us to believe Him."
"By the way, people",
Mr. Monroe said, "that is the main reason for God to send His
Messiah to you and to us -- belief. How
can such an infinite God send His Messiah to you and to us -- believable?
How can such finite beings understand such infinity -- such
greatness? We can not,
even so, God's plan brought Him down to man in the likeness of a man. He
became man for us! And more
than that, He became sin for us. He literally took our penalty. More on that
later perhaps."
"For the moment", Mr. Monroe said, "I'm going to jump
right over the last 2,000 years, since
Israel's clock has been stopped for this whole time.
Stopped, awaiting the return of the whole house of Israel -- awaiting
the return of the Messiah for His bride
Israel, with whom He will rule and reign 1,000 years as your King."
Rachel interjected, "-- that's right, even King David this
morning noted that he was our King for a short time, but Messiah will be our
King forever."
"That is exactly right, Rachel -- good point."
"We right now are seeing", Mr. Monroe continued,
"things happening in Israel that are fitting as key parts of the End
Time puzzle."
At this moment the waiter started serving the luncheons and
providing everyone with iced tea.
He might as well have been invisible, thought Jacob. No one seemed to
even notice him or the food. Yet, no one missed a beat in the conversation
-- all the while devouring the food.
Mr. Monroe continued even as he was
thoughtfully eating his lunch, "-- yes, these things are keys to
the puzzle -- key to the End Time plan, -- leading irrevocably to Messiah's
RETURN -- the really big return!! King David did it today! -- Messiah will
do it soon!!"
Jacob asked, "Is this soon ---
days? -- months? -- years? "
"Well Mr. Levi, Sir, -- that is part of our task now.
With the latest information we should be able to nearly pin point the
date --- but not until the Prince (King David) starts the Daily
Sacrifice."
Rachel squirmed and squealed her delight, " -- please go on Mr.
"Well 'group'", chided Mr. Monroe, "it would appear
that we may have `Instant Temple' here in Israel -- on the Temple Mount
(thanks to the earthquake and `Moses' and his men out there locating the
Tabernacle). The Temple is supposed to be in place day after tomorrow."
"You remember", Jacob, "your Knesset voted to take
southern Lebanon. King David has Ezekiel working with your officials to
`divide the land'. We well may see Israel celebrate the Passover starting
next Monday. I understand that many have already started the preparations
(we are talking lamb sacrifice and all)."
"If, and I say if", said Mr. Monroe, "that happens,
then we can look for that sacrifice (like the Passover) to be repeated six
months later . If it is not
done this year -- it will be at least a year away -- it must `cog' on a
Passover -- that is the only for-certain milestone at this point."
Sam interjected, "-- I don't see how it can not be this
year!"
"True, Sam", said Mr. Monroe, "I feel the same way,
but remember that God's ways are not our ways.
In His time it will happen -- right on schedule -- His schedule!
I do agree though -- sure looks good for this year."
There was a short time of quiet while everyone `chewed' on all the
heavy duty morsels that had been coming to them in this discussion.
Rachel broke the silence again,
asking, "-- then what we are seeing -- people -- King David, etc, are
all just pre-cursors to the main event!"
"That's it Rachel, you've got it, I do believe.
In effect,
"Hey", said Rachel, "-- you have just shifted emphasis
to Daniel -- I assume that's the Prophet Daniel?"
"Right, Rachel -- remember, we said (at least I think we did)
that Ezekiel has the pre-cursor information to Daniel's.
Ezekiel via the Prince brings in the establishing of the Daily
Sacrifice -- this may actually happen this year (maybe not) -- but if it
does, it will probably be just after the October 10th `Passover' --
remember, that is the sacrifice repeated six months later (i.e., six months
after the normal Passover)."
"But, beware, dear friends", -- Harold became very serious,
-- "remember what King David said just this morning -- Israel will yet
follow another who they think is their Messiah -- but is not.
He will do even miracles which will convince many.
I say again, -- beware."
"This impostor will probably come on the scene in a major way
just after the Daily Sacrifice is set up, for this rascal will try to put
down the Daily Sacrifice. Jacob, I suspect he may try to push a law through
the Knesset, probably some 1010 days after the Daily Sacrifice is
established."
"You get that from the Prophet Daniel's writings?" asked
Rachel.
"That's right", said Mr. Monroe, "God's Word is very
specific in this area -- I'll be glad to show you later
-- even give you a little paper I've prepared.
Yes, Rachel -- it is awesome!!!"
Phoebe broke her normal silence, having become very engrossed in
these activities -- actually she knew a lot of it from previous discussions
with Harold, but in general she shied away from direct participation:
"It truly is awesome", she said, "but really, we haven't seen
anything yet. It will really `blow us away' as we progress through the
next 4 to 6 years, right?"
"Right, honey, -- serious and trying times for almost everyone,
especially for Israel as she is reestablished, cleansed, and groomed for her
Messiah. Israel must be a
beautiful and clean Bride for the Messiah!!!"
Sadie in her own little way asked, "Mr. Monroe, what should we
do? -- should Sam and I still
come over -- immigrate?"
"Sadie", Mr. Monroe interjected,
"I'm not going to start acting as God here -- you and Sam must seek
God's will for your life -- He will direct you, -- if you ask Him!
He will, you know! Each of us, every person in the world, has a
responsibility in this matter. It
will be great to be here -- it will be tough to be here, -- it will have
real highs and lows. Never a more exciting time in all history."
Looking at his watch, Harold sees it is already 1:15 p.m.-- they had
all eaten their lunch -- actually a very tasty chicken salad (or was if
tuna, Harold thought) and bagels with iced tea -- yet I doubt if anyone
could tell you what they had eaten. It could have been straw.
All had been 100% (or more) engrossed in their discussion.
Jacob nodded, as he confirmed the time, saying, "I must get back
to the Knesset for the 2 p.m. session. Thanks for including me in your
`group'. Please, he said, keep us in mind at the Knesset, we need to be
alert to God's ways -- there are all sorts of pressures related to King
David and the others.
Let me hear from you please. Shalom", he said, as he turned and left.
Mr. Monroe asked for the check from the waiter. "Oh", he
said, "Mr. Levi took care of that for all of you."
The remaining part of the `group' exclaimed in unison how nice and
also sneaky that was! With
that, they decided to head back to their rooms.
As she left with the Monroe's, Rachel asked pointedly: "Harold,
please review the skipped 2,000 year period -- and why did you say
Israel's `clock' was stopped
for that time?"
Sam also stretched the question to indicate, " why God would do
so?"
Harold noted that this was a vital area to
discuss, but he said "I'm not sure you dear people are ready to
discuss it -- although I think the recent events are certainly tempering you
to this subject."
"Harold,
does this impact us because of our differences? " Rachel asked.
"You believe Messiah has already been here some 2,000 years ago,
and you believe He will return soon, while we deny it, and look for Him for
the first time?"
"Yes, Rachel that kind of sums up the
dilemma -- but there are reasons -- God has a plan, a sometimes very
difficult and tough to understand plan."
Sadie sensed Harold's reticence to continue, -- she ventured,
"-- we understand that there must be some difficult things for you to
discuss with us -- we are Jewish, and I suspect this fact and related
problems are restricting you. Right? Well,
I for one want you to be completely open and candid with me!"
"Thanks, Sadie, -- I think you dear people know that you have found a
very strong place in our hearts and lives in just these few short days.
Phoebe and I both have a real love for each of you -----------
yes", Harold continued (after clearing his throat -- he was
obviously deeply touched) "these are difficult areas to fully
understand -- and perhaps even more difficult to explain."
"Remember that you referred to that
quotation: to `study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman
that needeth not to be ashamed
-- rightly dividing the word of
truth' ".
"Sadie, Rachel, -- Sam, -- it doesn't always come easily -- and
it is easy to go off on a tangent -- if you are not very careful.
You must ask God to teach you -- to guide you.
It is never wrong to ask the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to
verify anything -- I mean anything in life -- large or small."
Rachel asked pointedly, "Harold, tell us how you see it, please
-- we love you guys too, we
know you will be truthful and also tell us in love."
"Please", Sam stressed, "-- we must know how this
really fits -- how we as Jews should act or react -- please give us your
insight."
"Well, -- ah, -- ok, but we, Phoebe and I,
want to be sure that nothing we say will do anything but increase our love
for each other and, as far as that's concerned, for Israel and all her very
special ones. Ok? -- agreed?"
Receiving their nods of approval, -- Harold (after looking carefully
at Phoebe for a few seconds, she nodding her approval with a concerned
`bite' of her lower lip) said: "I'll be glad to review the scriptural
history (really His-Story) with you."
Harold noted, "actually, I'll be the most blessed, because
somehow God always opens new and wonderful truths (yet old) to us every time we go
seriously to His Word."
"Where to start?", Harold commented aloud, "-- well,
you know that the Prophet Ezekiel and the Prophet Daniel lived about 2500
years ago --- using the Gregorian calendar notation we'd say they lived 550
BC.
They were actually in the last quarter or so of that important period
for Israel."
"Going back to the beginning", Harold said, "from
Genesis, the first book of the Bible (also the first book which Moses wrote
under God's direction -- you have this as the first book of the Pentateuch)
we see God's `signature' in promises for the salvation of mankind. This
particularly became important after Adam and Eve failed the first test for
all of mankind. Man was
separated from God -- could not be restored to God directly."
Harold paused a second or two, "-- you know, he said, it might
be good right here to ask ourselves a question or two: -- what is God's plan for
man? -- what could man provide that angels could not?
-- why did God allow the angels to rebel? -- for Lucifer to become
prideful -- for 1/3 of the angels to follow
him in rebellion to God?"
"It is important", continued Harold, "for us to see
this from God's perspective -- after all, it is His Story!"
Rachel prompted, "- yes, that must be very important -- not to
mention fulfilling."
"Well, dear ones", Harold continued, "the angels God
had created only partially met His need for fellowship -- He desired to
establish a method whereby true two-way fellowship, respect, and love could
occur. Angels could not -- they were essentially `robots' until God later
apparently gave them a measure of freedom of expression, within which
they `blew it'. They failed the test; Lucifer fell to pride, 1/3 of the
angels turned from God to follow Lucifer."
"God `snapped the cord' on the angels -- Lucifer was thrown out
of heaven (from God's domain) unto the earth.
God renamed Lucifer, Satan. The
fallen angels were thrown out of heaven (probably into outer darkness in
chains -- `orbits' awaiting final judgment)."
Harold took a deep breath, "you know", he said, "this
represents more
"With this situation established", Harold continued,
"God then created man. Man
is given free will, the ability to select key issues -- he will
be tested. Actually, ever since Adam, every person that came into the
world has been tested against this matrix of power -- good and evil. God providing the positive (good) forces
and Satan the negative (evil) forces."
"Quite a plan, right Sam?"
"Whew, I guess", said Sam, "-- it starts to put things
in order though."
Rachel, being anxious, broke in, " -- please Mr. Monroe, please
tell us the rest."
"All right, Rachel, --"
"We", Harold said, "already noted that Adam and Eve
failed their test -- Satan succeeded
in beguiling them. He won the
first battle, but God will win the war!"
"Man from Adam and Eve until Abraham, lived as individuals
before God. God tested them under various regimens -- some call these
various stages: innocence, human government, flood, etc.
These passed the test only when they believed God and did what He
asked them to do -- but not many passed."
"The rest of the story", said Harold, "you should tell
me! -- but just so we are on common ground I'll tell it as I
understand it and you give me your insight(s) as desired. Ok? "
They all nodded `yes'.
"With Abraham", Harold continued, "-- God first
adopted a family -- actually, because Abraham believed God and separated
from his idol worshiping family as God asked, God promised he would be the
father of many nations. That has come true in Isaac as well as in Ishmael, for
Abraham was the father of both."
"Isaac, you know", reminded Harold, "had Esau
and Jacob -- Jacob was a rascal and tricked Esau out of his birthright, so
Jacob became the heir apparent
to Isaac. As a result of a special encounter Jacob had with God's
representative -- Jacob was honored by being renamed Israel! -- again
receiving the promise which God had given previously to his father Isaac and
his grandfather Abraham."
"Well sir", -- Harold continued after just a moment to
catch his breath, "Jacob loved Rachel and in the process of getting her
he was tricked into taking the older sister Leah also. -- The plot
thickens", Harold said, "-- and in God's wisdom He allowed only
Leah to bear children at first -- six actually (including Judah). Rachel
gave Jacob her handmaiden
to have children for her -- a quaint surrogate type custom of that day.
She had two, then as
Leah became barren, she gave Jacob her handmaiden -- good for two, then
Rachel had two (Joseph and Benjamin). These twelve children of Jacob are at
least the titular heads of the twelve tribes of Israel.
God used this `competitive' situation and four women (not the normal
one wife situation that God normally insists on)
to establish this very important leadership `team'."
"I sometimes wonder", Harold continued, "if God didn't
allow this just to be sure that the `genetic purity' thing didn't out weigh
His main fellowship rationale -- `faith' (obedience to God's Power
manifested to you)."
"Well now, sweetheart", Harold turned
to Phoebe, "why don't you carry the story for awhile."
Phoebe was a little taken by surprise, but after a brief thought,
said, "Ok!"
"As you know", Phoebe said, "-- Israel went through a
number of situations on the way to the land promised to Abraham, Isaac, and
Jacob -- actually, including capture and servitude in Egypt, etc."
"Moses of the tribe of Levi was selected by God to lead Israel
out of Egypt", Phoebe continued, "-- you know the story, --
involving the true passover and
it's great symbolic message commemorating God's salvation as He protected
them from the death angel. You
recall that the death angel struck the first born of any home that did not
have the blood of the Passover Lamb on the door posts and lintel."
"I hope you realize", said Phoebe, "that we are
probably going to see Israel as a nation celebrating the Passover soon --
sacrificially!! -- a first after almost 2000 years without it!!"
Phoebe continued, "-- Moses was also used as the instrument of
God to bring the Law to Israel -- the ten commandments (not ten
options!!)."
"The form of Israel's worship became structured, -- they wanted
to be like other nations who had kings; God, after using Judges to maintain
order, gave them their king. King Saul was impressive in a non-impressive
way, -- David, as God's man, was later anointed King of Judah by Samuel the
Prophet. We have just seen a
reenactment of that great event in the Knesset just yesterday -- the Prophet
Samuel again anointed David King -- this time of all Israel (not just Judah
as before). I hadn't really realized that before, Harold, until just now --
King of all of Israel!!"
Phoebe further noted: "King David uniquely spoke of the coming
Messiah -- the Just One -- The King of Kings!"
"The law provided a reference for man to gauge himself with --
an excellent mirror to clearly appraise man of his limitations. But, nobody was
ever able to fully keep the law -- and Satan was always quick and eager to
keep man off balance. Actually
he helps man to fail to keep the law."
"You know, of course", Phoebe interjected, "the law is
too perfect, -- no mere man can fully keep it.
It's a great mirror for us, it makes it clear that indeed, all have
sinned and come short of the glory of God."
"In God's grace -- wanting to find those that would truly love
Him -- He fulfilled His prophesies concerning Messiah -- He came to earth in
human form (an ignominious reduction from His past glory) -- to live, die,
be resurrected (the first fruit) --- and later to come again."
"Unfortunately for Israel, fortunate for we gentiles, the
leaders of Israel did not recognize their
Messiah coming as a servant -- although the scriptures clearly note this
(perhaps this is easier for us to see now
because we are all great `Monday morning quarterbacks', are we not!
They expected Him to come in POWER AND GREAT GLORY!! -- and that He will do,
but not until His return -- yes, not until then."
"In effect", Phoebe continued, "-- He came for the
rest of the world -- for Harold and me, etc. -- allowing Israel to have a
`rest' in the rear pew so to speak."
"Harold", Phoebe looked at her husband, "I think you
should complete the story."
"Ok, honey, -- well, -- ostensibly for rejecting the Messiah,
and even pressuring for his crucifixion, Israel as a nation and people
was slipped into neutral gear. Mind you, this was/is all part of
God's great plan for sorting out the `stout hearted' -- those that really
love Him."
"This process", Harold points out, "was/is tough on
Jews. They are really treated rough -- `hit about the head and shoulders' so
to speak -- killed by the millions -- indeed extreme. But, the process
brought salvation to those of us gentiles that otherwise had no hope. No
Hope!! None. But, as God has
opened that door to us, many have received His provision. -- many others
have not!"
"Interestingly, the Word of God even tells us that He (God) will
also use the gentiles through jealousy to touch and restore Israel."
"You know", Harold mused, "-- we really need to look
at God's plan in broad brush -- see if we can get His perspective on an
overview basis. We really need
to know where we are and perhaps where He is taking us."
"Let's highlight the milestone of this plan -- it will help to
see it. Running as we are,
`Monday morning quarterbacks' -- here is how it looks:
Remember -- the first 2,000 years of man, God dealt with individuals;
Adam and Eve, Job, Noah, etc (from Adam to Abraham);
-- the second 2,000 years of man,
God dealt
with the nation of
Israel (Abraham to Messiah);
-- the third 2,000 years of man, God
has again dealt
with individuals, based on each
one accepting His provision through the
Messiah.
-- the seven-year testing of Israel (Daniel's 70th week of years) --
is probably a part of the last 2,000 years of man. It is a special favor to the whole house of Israel, a process
to prepare those of true Israel (those in the faith) to be the Bride of
Messiah. A truly mysterious affiliation -- but within the bounds of God's
desire to establish mutually responsive love relationships."
"Let's backup for a bit", Harold suggested, "-- while
Israel's clock was stopped (this has
lasted about 2,000 years), Messiah has drawn individuals to Himself by
faith, -- bringing those of the true faith in Him, into His `Body' (yet
another mystery)."
"We now see", ventured Harold, "how gracious and
complete our God is -- bringing 6,000 years of `searching' on His part to an
end. An amazing story, yes --- but ours is one amazing God!!!"
Rachel couldn't contain herself any longer, she had to interject her
"-- AWESOME!!"
"That is certainly true too, Rachel", Harold noted.
"All that we are seeing here today so far verifies God's love
for both Israel and the Church. First
the Messiah will gather the Church to Himself to mystically bring the Church
into a `physical/spiritual union' with Himself -- He as the Head, the Church
as His Body. Next the Messiah
will mystically join Himself with Israel as His Bride."
We understand from the Prophet Daniel that the gathering of the
Church will be just after the center of the 70th Week of Daniel takes place,
actually about 45 days after the Abomination of Desolation takes place.
It is really exciting, for this could happen in about 6.7 years from
now, if all continues as we have been experiencing the fulfillments of
prophesies these last few days.-- it is close at hand at any rate."
"Israel must wait", Harold explained, "an added 3-1/2
years for her `Coronation' with her King, her Messiah -- but what a day that
will be for all that are 'in the faith' -- those that are of true Israel --
the true Bride of Christ".
"Mr. Monroe", Sadie exclaimed, "-- is it really that
firmly structured -- is there some room for differences or variations?"
"You are very perceptive", Sadie, "and it does all
sound rather pat --, but", Harold volunteered, "there are indeed a
number of areas of question -- and we must be very open and available to
accommodate God's immense creative variations."
"What Phoebe and I have just told you", said Harold,
"is an overview
"That is certainly true", said Sam, "from my
standpoint -- I was in complete
darkness on most of this until just the last few days!"
Rachel mused almost inaudibly, "-- oh what a plan our great God
has brought about, has allowed us to start to see and experience `with
Him'."
Sadie was so filled with joy over these matters that she just moved
quickly between Harold and Phoebe giving them both a loving
squeeze and `peck' on their cheeks. "Oh", Sadie said,
"sorry for such a display on my part!"
"Not at all, Sadie", Phoebe said, giving her a close
squeeze in return, "both Harold and I loved that demonstration of your
love for us. We praise our Lord that He has not only broken down
communications barriers between us but has also built up a wonderful Love
bond -- this is His Agape love that transcends any or all of mans' problems,
if we are open to His leading."
Rachel propelled herself into this small `circle' and Sadie reached
out to make room for Sam also.
"Mr. Monroe", Rachel ventured almost hesitantly for her,
"-- can Jews such as we , she pointed to Sam, Sadie and herself, really
know the Messiah -- like you and Phoebe
seem to? You once said
something about `completed' Jews!?"
"Dear Rachel, bless your sweet and sensitive heart", Harold
almost whispered, "that is
what life is all about -- to find and know Him.
That is His purpose, that is His plan.
Phoebe and I praise the Lord He has brought us all together and you
to this great understanding."
"Yes", Harold continued, "-- anyone that believes that
Jesus came to die for their SIN, accepts Him as their only Savior with no
reservations (a heartfelt transaction with God) is made a child of God by
God. They become a member of His family.
Very special are those that are Jewish -- they have special blessings
-- they are twice blessed, completed as a Jew and firmly planted in
Him."
"I
believe Jesus died for me", Rachel said, "and I want to claim Him
as my personal Savior. Can I do
that?"
"Oh wow", said normally reserved Harold, with Phoebe
following suite almost immediately, "-- this is wonderful, Rachel, all
that is needed is for you to tell God that you know you have fallen short of
His mark -- have sinned in many ways -- and that you ask the Lord Jesus
Christ to cleanse you and to come into your heart.
He will do it. As verification of this to you, He will leave His Holy
Spirit there for your assurance, instruction and help."
"That is certainly my desire", said Rachel. "Would you
help me?"
Phoebe put her arm around Rachel, bowed her head and very simply
asked, "Father God, meet this dear girls heartfelt cry. Rachel, simply
pray for His forgiveness."
Rachel, with head bowed, tears of joy trickling down her face, told
the Lord, "I admit my sins, and I need to be reconciled to you Father
-- please come into my innermost being, make me
a completed person in
You -- a completed Jew."
At that point, Rachel experience God's forgiveness of her sins and
the reconciliation that she had longed for -- between God and herself.
Rachel said, "Oh thank you Lord", for she felt His
forgiveness of her sins as if a great mill stone was taken from her back.
Her reconciliation with
her God came as a flood of love for everyone,
as His Holy Spirit indwelt her and shared His great Agape Love.
Sam and Sadie said, " -- we don’t feel ready just
yet to make such a commitment, but we are genuinely glad for Rachel".
Harold and Phoebe assured them that in God's time they too would
desire that above anything else in life.
Harold said, this is really the only `bottom line' that matters in
life.
Sam answered, "I really know that to be true, Mr. Monroe, and I
want it more than anything". "Me
too", said Sadie!
"If that is really true", said Rachel, "then why don't
you ask Him now? It is glorious
to know that your sins are forgiven and that He is in your life."
Harold and Phoebe both were taken aback at Rachel's boldness and
sureness -- praising God that indeed He had done a complete job on her!
Sam and Sadie both bowed their heads and together asked that God
forgive their sins, reconcile them to Himself by the Lord Jesus Christ --,
Sam interjected, "our Messiah!!" Tears had welled in their eyes as
their sins were forgiven, obvious relief as that great burden left them --
but as God's Holy Spirit came in to complete the reconciliation act, both
just hugged and burst into tears of joy.
They had held back for so long, desiring to really know. Didn't feel
it could happen. But now it
has!!
Rachel embraced them
both together, as did Harold and Phoebe. There were real tears of joy from
all in the `circle' -- this part of the `group' had experienced God moving
in their lives in a very special way. Their common bond in the Messiah was
no longer strained, it was rather the drive for their new found unity. Each
had placed their trust completely in their Messiah..
"Wow oh Wow" -- squealed Rachel -- "Wow of Wow
!!!" Continuing to hug
every one in the `group'. |
